I am Patrick The Patron Saint of Ireland.
This is the perfect programme to watch to celebrate St Patrick’s Day whether you are in Ireland or elsewhere. It’s a drama-documentary on the life of the Saint based on his own writings and interviews with historians and Christian leaders.
The Netflix description says, “I Am Patrick peels back centuries of legend and myth to tell the true story of Saint Patrick. Through historical re-enactments, expert interviews and Partick’s own writings, experience the journey from man to saint.”
Patrick is played as a young man by Robert McCormack and in his later years by Jonathon Rhys-Davies. Filming took place in Ireland last year in some spectacular locations in Mayo, Clare and Galway with an Irish cast and crew.
As we all probably know Patrick was a Briton who was enslaved in Ireland and eventually escaped. He later chose to return to Ireland to teach the people about Christianity and how it is a good idea to be nice to each other.
The Irish were later able to return the favour and bring Christianity back to the south of Scotland, the north of England and mainland Europe.
Besides being a great story, well-presented it also gives some insight into what life was like in Ireland in this early period.
